Abstract
1298468 Unsaturated phosphonate (or thiophosphonate)esters SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 12 Oct 1970 [4 Dec 1969] 59269/69 Heading C2P The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein Q is O or S, R 1 and R 2 are alkyl, X 1 is H or halogen, X 2 is halogen, and Y is a phenyl group optionally substituted by a single halogen atom. They may be obtained either (a) by reacting a compound with an α-halomethyl ketone of the formula wherein Hal is halogen, in the presence of a base, e.g. ammonia or an amine, or (b) by reacting a phosphous halide wherein Hal is halogen with a ketone in the presence of a strong base, e.g. an alkali metal hydride. Each reaction (a) and (b) is preferably carried out in the presence of an organic solvent, e.g. an alcohol in (a) or ether or acetone in (b). The products have pesticidal properties and may be used as active ingredients in pesticidal compositions which may also contain a carrier and/or a surface active agent. The carrier may be solid or liquid (including a liquefied normally gaseous compound) and the composition may be formulated as a wettable powder, dust, granulate solution, emulsifiable concentrate, emulsion, suspension concentrate or aerosol. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,024,395 and 1,185,112.
