Abstract
1298360 Continuous casting USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 31 Dec 1969 [31 Dec 1968] 63575/69 Heading B3F A flexible starter bar for a continuously cast slab has a body 10, Fig. 2, comprising two longitudinal plates 12, 14 held together by hinge rods 28 passing through transverse rows of lugs 22, 24 extending alternately from each plate. The plates are spaced apart by pairs of superimposed bars 26, Fig. 4, prevented from full longitudinal movement by co-acting notches 30 in their faces embracing the rods 28. A rod 20 co-operating with aligned lugs 16, 18 temporarily secures a disposable head 2 of scoop form with strand-anchoring bolts 8. In a modification, Figs. 5-7, there are extra plates (58) between the main body plates and the head (32) is temporarily bolted to a connection-piece (40) secured by rods (52) to the body (42).
