1298278 Method of manufacturing briefs COURTAULDS Ltd 10 April 1970 17093/70 Addition to 1238847 Heading A3V In a modification of the method of manufacturing briefs, pants or diapers as described and claimed in parent Specification, and using a stretchable material e.g. of natural or synthetic yarn, the elastics strips 5, 6, 13 and 14 are attached to the blank under no, or substantially no, tension so that when the finished article is removed from the frame 16 the material does not pucker. The elastic strips may be attached by adhesive, heat welding (if the material is thermoplastic), or sewing. In the last case a thread-stitching machine 7, 8, 9, 10 as in Fig. 2 (not shown) may be used, the machine carrying a knife to cut out the blank in advance of the sewing operation, and the speed of the machine over the blank being synchronised with the rate of feed of elastic strip to ensure that the strip is attached in a tensionless or virtually tensionless state.
