1298201 Cellulose ether compositions; multicoloured paints HARLOW CHEMICAL CO Ltd 5 June 1970 [7 March 1969] 12168/69 Headings C3F and C3P A multi-coloured paint comprises differently coloured particles derived from two or more aqueous film-forming polymer emulsions each containing a cellulose ether as inner dispersed phases in an aqueous outer continuous phase comprising a dispersion of a clay which insolubilizes the cellulose ether. A small amount of the clay may be included in the polymer emulsions. The outer clay dispersion may also contain sodium hexametaphosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose or silica. The polymer emulsions may be vinyl acetate homo- and co-polymers, e.g. ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, or acrylic ester homo- or copolymers, e.g. styrene-acrylate copolymers. The cellulose ether may be hydroxyethyl cellulose. Diethylene glycol butyl ether may also be present as a coalescing solvent.
