Abstract

1296955 Lighting arrangements INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 21 May 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 16209/71 Heading G2A An illuminating arrangement in a photocopier having a lens system (12), Fig.1 (not shown), comprises tubular lamps 120 and reflectors 110, 112, 114 which direct light from the lamps in such a way that any given region of a document plane (5) is illuminated with an intensity which increases with increasing displacement of the region from the optical axis of the lens system, thereby compensating for any intensity variation as a function of position on the document plane (5). In particular, the reflectors compensate for the "cosine fourth power law" of attenuation caused by the lens system (12). Reflectors (10, 11) are provided to direct a document image to the copy plane (2a) of the electro-photographic copier of Fig.1 (not shown). In a preferred embodiment, the reflectors 112, 114 contain an angle of 74 degrees, and the reflectors 110, 112 an angle of 163 degrees.
