Abstract
1296846 Mixing apparatus; polymerisation apparatus ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 26 Nov 1969 [27 Nov 1968] 57903/69 Headings B1C and B1X A continuous polymerisation apparatus comprises a cylindrical, or oval vessel I having rotatable shafts 11, 12 carrying perforated or grid discs 9, 10 connected at their peripheries by rods 13. Frusto-conical agitating members 14 are fixed at their peripheries to the rods 13 with their smaller ends nearer the inlet 3; gas is removed at 5 and product at 4. The members 14 may be grids or wire gauge (see Fig. 5, not shown) and may be arranged to feed the reaction mixture towards the outlet 4 (see Fig. 3, not shown). There may be a cooling jacket 2. The angle # is preferably in the range 5-60; the mesh size of the grid or gauge is 5-40 mm., and the members 14 separated by a distance of 25-200 mm., both preferably increasing from the inlet to the outlet end.
