Abstract

1296457 Warning device for vehicles L WESCH 10 June 1970 [11 June 1969] 28225/70 Heading G1A In a warning system for vehicles including a pulsed laser beam source of infrared radiation secured to the vehicle along with a detector for detecting pulses from an obstruction, the obstruction includes a further detector and a further source of electromagnetic radiation which emits the pulses to the detector on the vehicle when the further detector receives the laser pulses from the source on the vehicle. In the Fig, cars 1 and 3 are travelling along a road an an infrared laser beam is emitted from a source 3 on car 1 striking a detector 4 on car 2 thereby activating a further source 5 whose beam strikes a detector 6 on car 1. Car 1's detector subsequently activates a warning light or meter indicating the presence of an obstruction (car 2). Other embodiments are described in which the beam sweeps the field of observation in front of the vehicle, or in which the beam is also used as a comunication means.
