Abstract
1295519 Making cement S RIKHOF & SONS Inc 18 Feb 1970 7759/70 Heading C1H A cement burning plant for producing clinkers of controlled particle size from a continuous feed of raw materials comprises direct 101 and indirect 102 preheaters, calciner 103, clinker 104 and clinker cooler 106 units, the preheater and calciner communicating with the cooler by ducts 114, 132, 133, allowing hot gas to flow from the cooler to the calciner and preheaters, the clinker unit also communicating with the cooler by a duct 116 allowing hot gas to flow from the cooler to the clinker unit, whereby particles of raw materials in the preheater calciner and clinker units are suspended in a countercurrent of hot gas from the cooler, the rate and force of the gas being adjusted to suspend within each of the units, particles below a desired size for sufficient time to permit them to be preheated, calcined and sintered. In operation, raw feed enters through 107 and divides into two streams passing through ducts 138 and 139 into the indirect and direct perheaters, diaphragms 141 controlling their relative proportions. From the direct preheater the feed passes through outlet 149 into line 129. From the indirect preheater the other feed passes out through 156 into line 158 and recombines with the feed from the direct preheater and enters the calciner by means of air supplied by duct 114. The calcine then passes through 163 into the clinker unit where the particles fuse together and pass into the cooler after their size has increased beyond that at which they would remain suspended. Hot gas passes from clinker unit to the indirect preheater by duct 122.
