Staiths and elevated structures.-Coal, ore and like bulk cargoes are unloaded by an elevator R suspended from beams D, E which are supported by gantries A, B running one on each side of the hatch U. The elevator R is driven by an electro-motor T and is connected by a swivel Q to the hoisting rope P of an electrically-driven winding drum M. A trolly G which carries the drum M runs on the beams D, E and is moved by ropes H, J. The elevator may discharge into a shoot, or on to a conveyer or second elevator, or into buckets.
