Abstract

1295247 Converting rotary motion to oscillatory motion J. G. BROWN 24 Feb 1970 [11 Jan 1969] 1780/69 Headings F2K and F2Q Rotation of an input shaft 16 is converted into oscillation of an output shaft 26 by mechanism comprising a slide 20 having a generally elliptical aperture 19 which is engaged by an elliptical eccentric member 11 secured to input shaft 10, so that rotation of shaft 10 causes reciprocation of the slide 20, and a pinion 25 on shaft 26 engaging a rack 24 disposed in a recess 23 in slide 20. The slide 20 is located in a guide 21 which is clamped to a casing base 14 by side pieces 22. The mechanism may be driven from an electric motor or manually driven through bevel gearing 52 on rotation of a hand-wheel 53. It may be used for valve grinding or used to drive a windscreen wiper. Oscillating drive may be taken from the slide member 20.
