Abstract
1294967 Tyre pressure indicator G E GARCIA 4 May 1970 21452/70 Heading B7C A tyre pressure monitoring apparatus comprises a radio transmitter, means for containing a power supply therefor, and a fluidpressure-responsive switch responsive to a pre-selected fluid pressure for energizing the transmitter, the apparatus being mountable within a volume defined by a wheel rim and a pneumatic tyre. In a preferred embodiment, described with reference to Fig. 2, a body member 55 of monitor 13 is generally integral with the valve of a tubeless tyre 53. A hard rubber disc-shaped portion 58 supports a valve stem 56 and has a generally cylindrical aperture 61 with a movable piston 63 mounted therein and connected to a T-shaped switch 65 adapted to close with contacts 66. One end of switch 65 is connected to a compression spring 67 which is adjustably held in position by a plug screw 69 threaded into aperture 61. A transmitter 78 is connected to the contacts 66 via leads 77, 79 and when the switch 65 is closed with contacts 66, the transmitter 78 sends radio signals via lead 81 to a ring-shaped antenna 85 mounted about the outside of valve stem 56. There may additionally or alternatively be a helical antenna 75 secured by glue to the portion 58 and connected to the transmitter 78. In a further embodiment, described with reference to Figs. 4 and 5, a generally ring- shaped body member 92 is adapted to be attached to the inside end of a valve stem 89 by means of a plurality of prongs 95. The body 92 has mounted therein transmitter means and valve means similar to that shown in Fig. 3.
