Abstract
1294861 Centrifugal separators MASCHINENFABRIK KYFFHAUSERHUTTE ARTERN VEB 10 Nov 1969 49806/69 Heading B2P A separation apparatus comprises two selfcleaning centrifuges 1, 2, a plurality of valves S1-S6 for controlling the flow through the centrifuges, a valve control panel 9 and a selector switch al, the valve control panel being provided with two electrical feed lines 10, 11, are associated with each centrifuge, each feed line containing a contactor d 1 (d 2 ) whereby, when the working rotation speed of the centrifuges is reached, the contactors operate and the contacts of the contactors apply voltage to the valve control panel 9 and close the current paths of the valves S1-S6, the selector switch al being movable to a number of positions 1-5 in each of which positions different ones of the valves are opened or closed so that the apparatus can operate as a two-stage apparatus with one centrifuge acting as a clarifier and the other as a separator or with both centrifuges acting as clarifiers or separators either in series or in parallel. The centrifuges 1, 2 have motor control panels 7, 8 associated therewith. Valves S 1 , S 2 control the entry, into the respective centrifuge, of liquid (e.g. oil) and sludge mixture coming from a reservoir 3 via a pre-heater 12. Valves S 3 , S 4 supply displacement liquid to the centrifugal chambers of the drums of the centrifuges and they only open, when the respective centrifuge is acting as a separator, for a short time just prior before removal of the sludge so that the displacement liquid effects complete removal from the centrifuges of the useful liquid component, e.g. oil. Valves S 5 , S 6 supply controlling fluid, at the time of complete or partial removal of the sludge from the centrifuges, to control chambers of the centrifuges, as a result of which a contactor bar is lowered and opens the sludge exits; after sludge removal, valve S 5 , S 6 close and controlling fluid is forced out of the control chambers by centrifugal force, whereafter the bar closes up the sludge exits again. The centrifuges are interconnected by means of a three-way cock 5 and an insulated pipe 4. After clarification in centrifuge 2 the purified liquid is conducted to a reservoir 13 for further use. When a fault occurs in the two-stage separator, control devices 6 pass a signal to the motor control panels 7, 8. The signal may also initiate a complete or partial sludge removal in both centrifuges to eliminate the trouble; if sludge removal does not lead to elimination, both centrifuges I and 2 are switched off, the valves S 1 , S 3 , S 5 , and S 6 are closed and an alarm is initiated. Signal lights h 1 , h 2 , and h 3 , indicate whether the centrifuges are working as separators and/or clarifiers.
