Abstract
1293820 Rolling toys TOMY KOGYO CO Ltd 24 Nov 1970 55848/70 Heading A6S A rolling toy in the form of a wheel A has a shaft 16 through its centre with a motivating unit 23 rotatably mounted thereon comprising a frame 24 with a gearbox 24a, symmetrically arranged battery casings 24b and an electric motor 25, connected, in the embodiment shown, through gearing to a gearwheel 40 fixed to the shaft 16 such that activation of the motor 25 (by the closing of a switch 30) results in the rolling of the wheel A. A weight 28 may be included in the frame to aid this movement. The switch 30 is connected to a disc fixed to the shaft 16 and having annular contacts on which leaf springs connected to the frame 24 run. The battery casings have covers 24b' for the changing of the batteries, the wheel having two housing sections fixed together by screw means at the ends of the shaft 16, the separation of these sections allowing the batteries to be changed. The wheel also has a rubber tyre, in two sections, one being 13, one on each half of the wheel, this providing frictional contact between the wheel and a supporting surface, and also has hubs extending out from the wheel in extension of, and coaxial with, the shaft 16 so that when the wheel falls on its side the resulting movement of it due to the rotation of the frame 24 tends to upright the wheel. Another embodiment described has the switch integral with a hub and also has the gearwheel which the motor drives to drive the wheel in the form of a ring gear fixed to one of the two wheel sections, the shaft being here replaced by a rotatable tube.
