Abstract

1293524 Refractories FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 5 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 1882/70 Addition to 1253974 Headings C1A C1J and C1N A refractory article is obtained from a mixture of a refractory, 0À5-10% of particulate Mg, Cr, Al, Be and their alloys, and 0À04- 1-0% of free alkali metal oxideby isostatic compression to at least 1100 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and sufficient to form a self supporting shape, and firing at at least 1500‹ C. in an oxygen containing atmosphere. The alkali metal oxide or its precursor can be used. Specified refractories are Al 2 O 3 , MgO, ZrO 2 , BeO 2 , TiO 2 , sillimanite, carbon, and the calcined forms of dolomite, bauxite, chrome-magnesite and magnesite. Mixtures of these and also of the metals can be used.
