Abstract

1293317 Gas-discharge display panels BURROUGHS CORP 1 Oct 1969 [2 Oct 1968] 28457/71 Divided out of 1289971 Heading H1D A display device comprises at least one insulating plate having a plurality of gasfilled apertures extending therethrough, corresponding plurality of light-generating cells provided by said apertures, first and second phosphor materials 400 and 410 within each cell, at least three electrodes associated with each cell, two of said electrodes 360 and 338 being at opposite ends of the cell in physical contact with the gas in the cell, means for establishing an electrical potential between one pair of the three electrodes so as to stimulate one of the phosphors to produce a first colour in selected cells, and means for establishing an electrical potential between a different pair of the electrodes so as to stimulate the second phosphor material to produce a second colour in selected ones of said cells. The device 332 is a sandwich including a bottom glass plate 334 having a tubulation 336, horizontal row cathode electrodes 338, an insulating plate 340 having apertures 350 and associated sputter traps 351, column electrodes 352 having apertures 353, an insulating plate 356 having apertures 358 and sputter traps 359, row anode electrodes 360 having apertures 362, and a top glass plate 380. The phosphors may be deposited by painting, spraying or by a settling process, and the cells may be grouped in colour triads (Fig. 3, not shown) as described in Specification 1,290,310. Two phosphor materials in selected cells may be stimulated simultaneously to produce another colour. The gas filling may include A, Ne, Xe and Hg.
