Abstract

1292936 Mowing machines OMARK INDUSTRIES Inc 22 April 1971 [30 April 1970 20 Nov 1970] 10744/71 Heading A1F An endless V-belt 20, for carrying the cutters of an impact mowing machine, has T-section connectors 24 retained in the belt by their end plates 26 which are positioned at the vented axis of the belt to reduce strain adjacent the plates when the belt is flexed. The belt is composed of fibre-filled rubber or other elastomeric material reinforced by a row of stranded polyester cords 22 and is encased in a sheath of nylon or polyester yarn 46. A buffer layer 23 of rubber reinforced with nylon fabric is placed between the cords 22 and the plate 26. A cutter element 32 is pivoted to each connector 24 by a pin 44 and is kept in the extended position by a slotted spring plate 30 bearing against, a flat area on one end. When a blade strikes an' obstruction spring plate 30 permits it to pivot back behind the front edge of the mowing machine even where the belt is prevented from deflecting by a pully 16. Preferably the general plane of the cutting element 32 is offset 10‹ from its direction of travel and the leading edge is inclined at 47‹ to this direction. The blades may be sharpened while in use as described in Specification 1,282,491. (For Figures see next page)
