Abstract

1292683 Railway trains; cars, continuous, forming trains; locomotives VOITH GETRIEBE KG 6 April 1970 [5 April 1969] 16249/70 Addition to 1291483 Headings B7H and B7L A. railway train has a power unit 2 driving an A.C. generator 3 and a plurality of wheel axles 6, 9 or group of axles which are each driven by an electric motor 5, 11 via a hydrodynamic transmission 7 having a reversible fluid coupling, wherein means are provided for switching from drive via a selected number of motors having fluid converters during acceleration or starting to drive via the fluid couplings during cruising. Simultaneously, with this changeover, the switch 14 is closed and the driving axles without the converters are driven directly by their fluidcouplings 12. For travelling in the opposite direction a further fluid converter is introduced and is driven in the opposite direction by reversal of the polarity of the motors. Alternatively the hydrodynamic gear 7 and motor 5 may be placed on the opposite side of the wheel or alternatively reversal may be accomplished by using a reverse construction of the axle gears 8.
