The wiper, which is rotatable about an axis O 1 , has a number of parallel fingers, see Fig. 2A (not shown), which engage the tap electrodes by an aligned row of contacts 11 ... 17. The tap electrodes, over the portions engaged by the wiper, are set obliquely, relatively to the radial direction, so that different contact elements of the wiper always engage two or more of adjacent top electrodes. The resultant parallel connection of the tap electrodes engaged by the wiper avoids relatively large changes of resistance as the wiper moves from one contact to the next.
