Abstract

1292034 Artificial stone composition BP CHEMICALS Ltd 27 April 1970 [8 May 1969] 23541/69 Heading C1H A hardenable structural constructional composition comprises an aggregate mix and a polyester resin system in the weight ratio range 1À5:1 to 4À5:1, wherein the polyester resin system comprises 7À5-20 wt. % unsaturated polyester, 10-30 wt. per cent copolymerizable monomer and 55-80 wt. per cent dilatant filler. The aggregate mix comprises different grades of sand and gravel. Suitable polyester resins are condensation products of a glycol with a mixture of an α,#-unsaturated dibasic acid and a saturated dibasic acid. The monomer is preferably styrene and the filler is tube milled anhydrite. Additionally, up to 4% of a catalyst system comprising a catalyst plus accelerator is included, preferably a mixture of dimethyl aniline and benzoyl peroxide.
