Abstract
1,174,035. Polymer/cement compositions. PROGIL. 4 March, 1968 [3 March, 1967], No. 10409/68. Addition to 1,134,383. Heading C3P. [Also in Division C1] A composition comprises an intimate mixture of an aluminous cement and a polymer of formaldehyde and an acrylamide, preferably in amount 3-10% by wt. The composition may also include a filler such as sand, gravel or clay. Polymerization may be carried out in situ, i.e. by mixing the cement, filler, an aqueous solution of formaldehyde and an acrylamide monomer or pre-polymer thereof and a polymerization catalyst and allowing the mixture to set. Preferably a polymerization retarder such as potassium ferricyanide is also included to increase the period of initiation of the polymerization. Polymerization catalysts include organic peroxides per-salts such as potassium persulphate or redox systems (e.g. chloric acidalkalibisulphite) to which organic or inorganic acids or alkaline reagents have optionally been added.
