Abstract

1292011 Vehicle door GENERAL MOTORS CORP 19 April 1971 [13 Feb 1970] 21037/71 Heading B7J A motor vehicle body has a flexible metal line in the form of a cable 22, located, under tension, in a passenger door 11, so arranged that, when the door is closed, an eyelet 48 on the cable fixedly mounted to a latch edge panel 47 of the door couples with a hook 49 fixedly secured on a door pillar 14 whereby the line can act to resist the intrusion of an object into the vehicle interior. The line may be similarly installed in the door 12 and extended to attach to the front and rear wheel arches 23 and 24 at 29 and 30, respectively. Reinforcing plates 31, 31A, 32, 33 and 34 are provided at the front and rear wheel arches and the pillars 13, 14, and 15 so that, on impact with a body on the side of the vehicle, tension created in the line is distributed over a large area in the reinforcing plates.
