Abstract

129,182. Ellis, G. B., (Chemical Works [formerly Sandoz]). Oct. 14, 1918. Sulphuretted dyes are obtained by heating with alkali polysulphides mixtures of p-amino-p<1>- oxydiphenylamine or its homologues or derivatives or the corresponding indophenols with non-hydroxylated p-nitroamino benzene compounds. Examples are given of the preparation of dyes from mixtures of phenyl-p-amino-p<1>-oxydiphenylamine and p-nitraniline, p-oxy-p<1>-amino-m<1> - methyldiphenylamine and p-nitraniline, phenyl -p-amino-p<1>-oxy-m<1>-methyldiphenylamine and 2 : 6-dichlor-4-nitraniline, dimethyl-p-- amino-p<1>-oxydiphenylamine and p-nitraniline; m-nitro-o-toluidine, p-nitrodimethylaniline, and p-nitraniline-o-sulphonic acid are also specified as parent nitroamines. The products dye cotton blue shades from alkali sulphide baths.
