Abstract
1291820 Removal of sulphur oxides; filtering system BERGWERKSVERBAND GmbH 6 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 47519/70 Headings B1D B1L and BIT [Also in Division B8] Oxides of sulphur are removed from gaseous mixtures also containing H 2 O, vapour and O 2 by feeding the mixture transversely of an adsorbent tower 1 as carbonaceous adsorbent moves downwardly. The tower 1 has perforated gas inlet and outlet walls 2, 3 and is enclosed in a casing 4, 5 having different sized baffle plates 8 projecting towards the gas inlet wall 2 such that more gas passes through the higher regions of the tower than through the lower. Some of the purified gas may be recycled. Spent adsorbent is metered by a device 9 into a regeneration column 10 where it is washed with water fed from line 16a. Part of the H 2 SO 4 so formed is taken off at line 13 whilst part may be recycled via 15, 16. Regenerated adsorbent is then metered to line 19 where a stream of water takes it to hopper 20 and thence to the tower via line 21 whereas the water is filtered by a rigid conical filter and passed via line 22 to a hydrocyclone 23, where scum is removed before recycling. Fresh adsorbent may be automatically added by height adjustable container 33.
