Abstract

1291036 7#,17# - Dihydroxy - 7α,17α-dimethylandrost-4-en-3-one UPJOHN CO 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 22046/71 Heading C2U The novel title steroid is prepared by oxidizing e.g. with an oxygenated hexavalent Cr compound, an androst-5-en-3#-ol-17-one 3-acylate to yield the corresponding 7-one, subjecting this to methylation at the 7- and 17-positions e.g. with a methyl magnesium halide, to yield a mixture of 7α,17α - dimethyl - androst - 5 - ene- 3#, 7#, 17#-triol and 7#, 17α-dimethyl-androst-5- ene-3#,7α,17#-triol and oxidizing this by the Oppenauer method to yield a minor proportion of the required product and a major proportion of 7,17α - dimethyl - 17# - hydroxyandrosta- 4,6-dien-3-one which are separated chromatographically.
