Abstract

1290775 Desalination membrane LUBRIZOL CORP 22 Sept 1970 45123/70 Heading B5B [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] A solution in formamide and acetone of a polymer, produced from N-(1,1-dimethyl-3- hydroxybutyl) acrylamide (see Division C3), is cast on glass and the solvent evaporated to form a 1 mil. film which after drying, is removed by soaking in water. The film can be used as a desalination membrane, e.g. for a 0À5 NaCl solution at 600 p.s.i.g., the membrane gives a salt rejection of 82À5% at a water flux of 300 gallons per square foot per day.
