Abstract
1290675 Refining ferrous materials BRITISH OXYGEN CO Ltd 16 June 1970 [8 July 1969] 34434/69 Heading C7D While oxygen-lancing steel or a ferrous alloy the entire free surface of the molten metal is blanketed with inert gas, preferably argon or nitrogen, to such a depth that iron vapour remains within the blanket until it has cooled sufficiently to avoid oxidation. The vessel containing the vessel may be located in the inert atmosphere, or inert gas may be injected above the charge. The process is applied also to copper-nickel alloys containing iron and carbon.
