1290289 Fibrillating plastics film NETHERLANDS APPLIED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FOR INDUSTRY TRADE & COMMERCE 7 Oct 1971 [8 Oct 1970] 46750/71 Heading B5B Plastics film, e.g. of polypropylene, is fibrillated using a rotating roller having a plurality of equally spaced axial rows of pins on its surface, the pins having torpedo-shaped points, a diameter D of 10-75 Ám and a length beyond their support not exceeding 4D. The needles may be made from wolfram and be arranged in rectangular holders which fit into axial slots in the roller surface. The length of the points may be about equal to the diameter. Individual pins may be spaced by about 100 Ám, allowing the production of very fine fibres.
