1290018 Measuring rotary unbalance; measuring misalignment AVERY DENISON Ltd 17 Sept 1970 [26 June 1969] 32279/69 Headings G1N and G1X Rotary unbalance or misalignment of journals of a rotor 7 having three (or more) journals 8, 9, 17 is measured by supporting two of the journals 8, 9 for oscillatory movement, rotating the rotor, a measuring the oscillatory movement of the third journal 17 (and of the other journals, if more than three) relative to the supported journals 8, 9. As shown, supports 5, 6 are mounted by springs 4 for oscillatory movement sensed by moving coil transducers 10, 11, and a third transducer 14 carried by a member 15 common to both supports 5, 6 senses the relative movement. The outputs of the transducers may be combined to indicate what the unbalance will be when the journals are aligned.
