Abstract

1289522 Anti-corrosive coating compositions ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 29 Jan 1970 [30 Jan 1969] 5235/69 Headings C3P and C3R [Also in Divisions C2 and C4] A water-based coating composition contains from 0À1 to 10% by weight of guanylurea chromate as an anti-corrosion agent. The coating compositions may comprise a water-soluble alkyd resin, polyvinyl acetate, polymers of vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride, acrylic polymers, styrene-butadiene polymers or co-polymers thereof with the above resins. The coatings prepared from the alkyd resins may be stoved to produce hard films. Examples illustrate the use of guanylurea chromate in compositions based on (a) a water-soluble alkyd resin modified by the incorporation therein of a maleinized drying oil, (b) a water-soluble copolymer of natural drying oils and maleic anhydride, (c) methylene-maleic anhydride copolymer, (d) an acrylic resin, (e) a water-soluble oxazoline alkyd resin, and (f) a butadiene-styrene copolymer latex.
