Benches, work; vices.-A grouped arrangement of mechanical tools comprises a bench or base formed with sockets for holding the various tools, and with means for locking them in the sockets. As shown, the bench a is formed with sockets b for the cylindrical shanks or projections on an anvil c, a drilling-apparatus d, and a vice e. A lever q carrying a circular saw S is pivoted to the bench at q<1> so that the work to be sawn may be held in the vice e. The saw is rotated by a handle T' and bevel gears T. Locking-devices D, E secure the vice and drilling-apparatus adjustably in their sockets at any required angle. Washers f or g of soft metal, such as lead or copper, may support the anvil c. As shown in Fig. 3, the vice comprises a base j and jaw m fixed to the socket projection b<1>, and a slide k carrying a jaw k' and also a pipe jaw k<2> co-operating with a bifurcated pipe jaw n' on the jaw m. The slide k, which is square or rectangular in section, is hollow and encloses the screw l which engages a nut i fixed on the base j. For gripping cylindrical, conical, or other shaped objects, fixed or removable studs o are provided, and a member p, Fig. 4, which may be placed on the stud o on the jaw k.
