Abstract
1288971 Inhalation initiated aerosol dispensers ARMSTRONG-KROPP DEVELOPMENT CORP 12 Sept 1969 [13 Sept 1968 8 Aug 1969] 44429/69 Index A5T 420 In an inhalation actuable dispenser device, inhaling by a patient causes actuation of a mechanism to dispense a metered quantity of medicament from a pressurized aerosol dispensing container and at the same time to permit air to be drawn into the device. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, inhalation through a mouthpiece 22 causes a membrane 26 to press against a plate 32, which is pivotally attached to a bellcrank 51 by an arm 33 and hence causes a clutch surface 55 to disengage a latch surface 62. A spring 21 then forces a projection 68 on bellcrank 61 to depress the nozzle 21.1 of a metering valve on the container 20, and at the same time opens air port 24. A string 66 allows resetting of the bellcrank mechanism which is necessary before the next dispensing operation can commence. The container 20 is removable by removing shell bottom 12.1. The membrane 26 may be replaced by an annular bellows or a piston attached to arm 33 sliding in a cylindrical extension of wall 23.1 In the other embodiment shown in Fig. 11, inhalation through a mouthpiece 122, shown covered by a removeable cap 185 which forms part of a strap 181, causes a membrane 126 to press against a plate 132, so that a catch 155 on a lever 151 pivoted about 151.1 disengages a latch 162. A spring 171 causes a projection 168 of a lever 161 pivoted about 161.6, to depress the nozzle 121.1 of the valve of the container 120, at the same time valve 165 is lifted from air port 124, shown covered by part 184 of a strap 181. The strap is attached fixedly to the lever 161 at 163, and provides means for resetting the lever mechanism. Also when the cap 185 is fixed over the mouthpiece 122, the strap prevents the lever 161 from rotating and hence the nozzle from being depressed. The container is removeable, by opening a lid 112 which is pivoted about an axis 112.1. It is stated that the container may move to actuate the valve, the nozzle being fixed.
