1288601 Measuring displacement electrically AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO Ltd 24 April 1970 [18 June 1969] 30792/69 Heading G1N An electromagnetic displacement transducer comprises a centre-tapped coil wound on a hollow non-magnetic conductive former A, and a displaceable magnetic core B half the length of the coil. The former acts as a short-circuited turn and movement of the core causes a differential variation in the resistive components of the impedances of the coil halves. The coil is preferably, but not necessarily, a single layer and is wound with constant pitch and fixed by adhesive to the former. End effects are corrected by turns T 1 , T 2 to increase the linear range of the transducer. The transducer may be connected in a bridge circuit (not shown) to form one or two arms thereof.
