1288463 Bar-stock feeding ACRO FEED INDUSTRIES Inc 4 Aug 1970 37484/70 Heading B3B A multiple bar stock feeding apparatus, e.g. for a six spindle automatic screwing machine, comprises a frame having support plates 24; bar stock supporting means 124 indexable through a plurality of positions that includes a feed position and having a plurality of idler rollers 136 for supporting lengths of bar stock 82; a drive roller 150 movably mounted on said plate 24 between a disengaged position to allow indexing of the supporting means 124 and an engaged position in which the drive roller 150 engages a bar stock 82 at the feed position between itself and the associated idler roller 136; and means, e.g. motor 168 and chain and sprocket drive to shafts 144 and 148, to rotate the drive roller 150 when engaged with the supported bar stock 82 to co-operate with the associated idler roller 136 to feed the bar stock into a spindle of a machine tool. The frame supports a plurality of guide tubes that are indexable with the supporting means 124. The guide tubes (40), (42), (44), (46), (48), (50) (Fig. 6, not shown) are longitudinally split by a hinged portion (54) which can be pivoted by a cam mechanism (60), (64) to open a tube to receive a new bar stock from a loading means (84) having a feed slot and escapement mechanism (90), (96). A device 180 senses when a tube is empty to initiate operation of the loading means (84). The various movements are actuated pneumatically.
