Abstract
1288361 Aromatic polyester/polysiloxane block copolymers UNION CARBIDE CORP 12 Jan 1970 [17 Jan 1969] 1426/70 Heading C3T A thermoplastic block copolymer comprises at least one linear block of dihydrocarbylsiloxane units and at least one polyester block derived from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a diol, the blocks being linked by Si-C, Si-S, Si-N or Si-O-C linkages and having number average molecular weights of 500-100,000 for each polyester block and 500-200,000 for each siloxane block, the weight ratios of polyester : siloxane blocks being 10 : 90 to 90 : 10, and the copolymer having a reduced viscosity of at least 0À3 dl./gm. measured for a 0À2 gm./dl. solution in a liquid chloroalkane at 25‹ C. Lists are given of suitable aromatic acids and diols. Copolymers from alkylene glycols have higher solvent resistance, those from diphenols higher melting points. In examples hydroxy-terminated polyesters of MW about 3000 from isophthaloyl or terephthaloyl dichloride and bisphenol A or hexamethylene diol are condensed with dimethylamino-terminated polydimethylsiloxanes of MW about 5000.
