Abstract
1287957 Treating sewage; trickling filters J. GIBSON 8 Jan 1971 [18 Oct 1969] 51250/69 Heading C1C A sewage treating apparatus comprises inner, intermediate and outer cylindrical casings 16, 14, 12 mounted on a base 18 to provide a primary settling and digestion chamber 30, an annular settling chamber 36 and an annular filter bed 42 (e.g. of stones). The inner casing 16 has a baffle 28 to direct rising particles towards the centre of the casing. The inner easing 16 has a scum chamber 32 which has outlet orifices 34 to the chamber 36. The chamber 36 has a restricted outlet to aid the flow of sewage over the lip portion 38 into filter bed 42. A two-way spreader 46 evenly distributes the sewage over the bed 42. Air is introduced into the bed 42 through pipe 52. The chambers 30 and 36 communicate through openings at the bottoms thereof. Sewage is fed into the apparatus through pipe 26 and drained from the apparatus through pipe 50. Gases are vented through vent 54. Sludge is periodically removed from chamber 30. The casings, covers and base may be concrete, the casings being constructed from precast concrete segments.
