Abstract
1287616 Powder compacting press WOLVERINE PENTRONIX Inc 10 Oct 1969 [15 Oct 1968] 49761/69 Heading B5A In a press wherein apertured articles e.g. toroidal ferrite computer memory cores, are compacted within'a die bushing against an upper anvil by a plunger which is upwardly displaceable around a stationary aperture defining core, and the upper surface whereof is level with that of a die bushing retaining plate over which a head is slidingly displaceable to sequentially position over the die a filling hopper which also acts to wipe powder from the die surface, the anvil, and a suction pick-up device for the ejected article, the core is axially adjustably locked in position within a housing within which is also retained the plunger and which is attached to the underside of the die plate whereby, upon removal of the die plate from the press, the core may be locked into position adjusted against a flat surface and the surfaces of the die plate, die bushing, plunger, and core may simultaneously be lapped to take up wear. In the press described, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), either the anvil or the suction pick-up may be located in an intermediate position on the head (46) which is arcuately reciprocated over the die plate from a cam-shaft (33), one or more articles ejected from one or more respective die bushings being conveyed by the suction pick up and each deposited therefrom into an individual container via an aperture or apertures (45) in the die plate, or in an insert thereof, correspondingly aligned with a preferred circular distribution of the die bushings. The plunger is also actuated from the cam-shaft, via a spring loaded pivoted lever, both during its ejection stroke, and during its compression stroke when the anvil (56) is clamped against the die plate (42) by one end of a bell crank device the other end whereof is actuated from the camshaft. In the Fig. 12 embodiment, four die bushings 66<SP>1</SP> are provided and each plunger 108 slides over four symmetrically disposed cores 68<SP>1</SP> which are carried by a plug 102 which is positionally adjustably locked in the housing 76<SP>1</SP> by set screws 110. The plungers 108 each comprise the head of a shank 106 which is adjustably locked within a plunger holder 112 by the engagement of set screws 114 within wedge shaped recesses 116. In the Fig. 14 embodiment, a single die bushing 66<SP>11</SP> is employed. The core 134 is located within the housing 76<SP>11</SP> by a transverse pin 138 which locates in a sleeve 120, a flange 146 whereof is adjustably with respect to the housing 76<SP>11</SP> by set screws 152 and is locked with respect thereto by screws 150. The plunger 130 is connected to a plunger holder 122 by means permitting its alignment and comprising a plunger flange 128 engaging within a transverse plunger holder slot 124. The pin 138 passes through an elongated plunger holder slot 144 permitting the relative movement of the plunger 130. The die plate may also comprise two, six, eight, or twelve die bushings. The die plate and plungers may comprise hardened tool steel or tungsten carbide.
