Abstract

1287359 Bedsteads C G VON BERCKHEIN 19 May 1970 [20 May 1969] 24083/70 Heading A4J [Also in Division A5] Electrotherapeutic apparatus comprises a D.C. voltage source 18 of less than 200 volts connected between a first electrode at or adjacent a head end of a bed and a second electrode on the bed. The first electrode may comprise a conducting plate 7 on a headboard 2. Either or both electrodes may comprise a conductive foil located in a pillow 22. The second electrode may alternatively be the bed underframe 1, part of the mattress 4, a foot rest 3, or an adjustable foot rest 5. The electrodes may be insulated using varnish, paint or wood veneer, or uninsulated electrodes may be used in conjunction with a current limiting resistor 21. The source 18 preferably consists of a plurality of 40 volt units and a switching device 19 controlled by a timer 20 so that the voltage across the electrodes may be varied in steps of 40 V.
