Abstract
1286813 Temperature responsive actuating elements TEDDINGTON AIRCRAFT CONTROLS Ltd 10 Nov 1969 [19 Nov 1968] 54786/68 Heading G1D A temperature responsive actuator comprises a container 1 containing a hollow member 4 with a bellows 5 secured between the edge of the container and the hollow member to provide a space which is filled with thermally expansible material, movement of the member 4 due to expansion and contraction of the bellows 5 causing corresponding movement of a piston 11 moving in a sleeve 7 through the inter-position of a transmission fluid between the member 4 and the piston 11. The thermally expansible material in the container 1 may be a wax or a mixture of waxes and may contain a metal powder e.g. of copper, aluminium or an alloy thereof. The wax is introduced through a bore 2 which is subsequently sealed by a plug 15. A flexible sealing diaphragm such as a rubber rolling diaphragm 10 serves as a seal for the transmission fluid which is introduced during calibration through a capillary tube 14 and then the tube 14 is sealed. The piston 11 is provided with a domed cap 12 and a sealing ring 13 prevents ingress of dirt and/or moisture.
