Abstract

1286782 Stabilising earth and rock BERGWERKSVERBAND GmbH 19 April 1971 [4 March 1970] 22374/71 Heading E1F [Also in Division B8] A method of stabilising coal and other loose earth and rock formations comprises inserting into each of a number of bore holes one or more destructible tubular multi-chamber containers in each of which the reactable products of a foamable plastics composition are separately stored, a rod, inserted into each bore hole, being used to break the containers and mix the components to form and foam the composition. A rod is secured in each bore hole by the foamed composition to reinforce the surrounding formation. The composition may comprise a polyurethane and water or a polyester and a blowing agent. The composition may be thickened by one or more fillers or extenders such as powdered rock, carbon black, talc, kaolin or asbestos flock. Each container may be formed of at least two tubes of plastics film, e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester or polyamide film. The tubes may be of equal length and different diameter, such as tubes 2, 3, whose ends are secured by clips 6 and which contain two components in spaces 4, 5 respectively. Each rod may be made of wood and may have an angular, preferably rectangular, cross-sectional shape and a pointed end which may be with metal or plastics. Each rod may alternatively have an end provided with cross vanes with which the components may be mixed. A quick-hardening composition, e.g. comprising a polyester and a peroxide, may be stored in a container which may be used as a plug for a bore hole mouth.
