Abstract
1286316 Electrodes H MENGELER 13 Nov 1969 55628/69 Heading A5R [Also in Division G5] In an apparatus for giving artificial sight to the blind, a device Fig. 1 (not shown, but see Division G5) similar in function to a television causes or converts optical images into electrical signals which are applied to the user's temples by electrodes 59, 60 at points such that electric currents can be conveyed direct to the appropriate regions of the brain where it is stated that they can be interpreted as if they were signals arising in the user's optic nerves. In Fig. 3 the camera-like devices 51, 52 are incorporated in the sides of a spectacle frame and the output electrodes 59, 60 are so located that they will contact the appropriate parts on the user's temples. The cables 55, 56 establish necessary connections between the 'cameras', the output terminals and power supplies and amplifiers (not shown).
