Abstract

1285889 Pressure transducer UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 16 Jan 1970 [29 Nov 1968] 56870/68 Heading G1N [Also in Division H1] A differential pressure transducer comprises a ceramic flow preventing piston 11 mounted by springs 32, 33 at a centralized datum position and slidable in a ceramic cylinder 12 at the ends of which respective plates 13, 14 define chambers 16, 17 with fluid inlet pipes 21, 23, piston displacement being sensed by a differential transformer 27, 28 coupled to a ferromagnetic insert 19 in the piston. The piston has a circumferentially grooved surface 34 which defines a labyrinth seal with the cylinder to permit small fluid leakage between the chambers. The springs are of tungsten-irridium. In use the transducer is connected across a Venturi or to block one of a series of parallel channels. It is said to be operable at 600‹C. The transformer windings comprise ceramic rings on which are deposited metallic conducting layers (see Division H1). The ferromagnetic insert 19 may be replaced by coils. For figure see next page
