Abstract

1284260 Labelling SATO KIKO KK 1 July 1969 [11 June 1969] 14763/72 Divided out of 1283954 Heading B8F In a hand labelling device in which labels are initially carried on a backing strip, instead of removing the labels from the strip at a sharp edge, the strip is formed into a free loop and the relatively stiff labels, being unable to follow the sharp turning back of the backing strip, are separated therefrom when the return run of the strip is fed to reduce the length of the loop. A trigger member 553 is provided with upper and lower feed pawls 558, 560. The upper pawl 558 engages incisions or notches provided between adjacent labels on a strip 580, and serves, on leftwards movement of the trigger under spring bias, to advance the labels towards their dispensing position and increase the size of the loop formed adjacent a label applying roller 579. On manually pulling the trigger to the right the lower pawl 560 engages the lower, return, run of the strip and shifts it rightwardly, reducing the size of the loop and separating the end label 581 from the backing strip. During this movement the upper run of the label strip is stationary, and desired inscriptions are printed on the penultimate label by a pivoted printing mechanism 572 which is actuated by a cam 559 carried by the trigger and acting on a lever arm 571 of the printing mechanism.
