1284118 Alkali metal aluminium hydrides INSTITUT OBSCHEI I NEORGANICHESKOI KHIMII IMENI NS KURNAKOVA 12 Sept 1969 45035/69 Heading C1A Alkali metal aluminium hydrides (MAlH 4 ) are prepared by reacting together the alkali metal, aluminium and hydrogen at a temperature above the melting point of the alkali metal and the desired product, at an elevated pressure and in the absence of an organic solvent, the alkali metal M being Na, K, Rb or Cs. When M is Na, the temperature may be 200-350‹ C., the pressure 175-300 atmospheres, and the aluminium may be present in 1-5% wt. excess. When M is K, Rb or Cs, the temperature may be 250- 400‹ C., the pressure 100-250 atmospheres, and the aluminium may be present in 3-10% wt. excess.
