Abstract

1283724 Hydraulic accumulators and surge dampers JOSAM MFG CO 21 Oct 1969 51631/69 Heading F1P A shock absorbing unit for insertion in a liquid conveying line or a hydraulic accumulator unit comprises a cylindrical outer casing having end walls 21, 22 Fig. 1 at least one of which is connected at 24 to the liquid supply line, and a flexible bellows sleeve B connected at its ends to walls 21, 22 and serving to divide the casing into liquid and compressed gas spaces; the sleeve B having pleats entending throughout its length and which pleats present in an unstressed sleeve a closedcurve sinious cross-section and which lie against each other when the sleeve is contracted as shown in Fig. 3. Compressed gas is forced through a plug 25a, into space G and liquid admitted at 24 passes through an orifice 23 in a disc 23a into the sleeve interior. In a modification collapse of the sleeve is limited by a perforated sleeve (29) Fig. 8 (not shown) entending between and secured to the casing end wall. In a further modification a connection (24a) Fig. 12 (not shown) in the other end wall allows the unit to be connected in line with the liquid conveying line as is also shown in Fig. 11 wherein the bellows sleeve B1 is of sinuous form. In a further modification the liquid connection may be closed by a valve having an operating stem entending through both ends cap and within the bellows. In Fig. 14 (not shown) the gas space is within the bellows sleeve.
