Abstract

1283703 Cash receiving and ticket issuing machine SOUTH EAST LANCASHIRE & NORTH EAST CHESHIRE PASSENGER TRANSPORT EXECUTIVE 11 Dec 1969 [12 Dec 1968] 59077/68 Heading G4T A coin receiving and ticket issuing machine comprises a shoot 21 (Fig. I) for receiving a tendered fare and for delivering the coins to a platform 22, a window 27 to allow an operator to check that the correct fare has been tendered, a ticket printing and issuing machine 12 having a plurality of fare keys 29 which may be depressed by the operator on receipt of a corresponding fare, and a statistics recording unit 11 for storing data concerning the tickets sold, said platform 22 being rotatable to deposit the coins in a coin vault when the ticket issuing machine is actuated. A pair of shoots for passing money to the operator, and for returning small change to the customer may be provided. In a first embodiment each ticket keys (29), (Fig. 7b) (not shown), cams a respective push rod (30) to depress an appropriate print member (32) into a printing position, subsequent energization of a motor (not shown) causing a platten (38) to be raised to impress a ticket (not shown) on to the type face. The fare stage may be included on the ticket by adjustment of print wheels (34) (not shown) via knobs 35 (Fig. I). The motor also drives a cam (25) (Fig. 2, not shown) to rock a lever (24) to operate platform 22 and obstruct coin shoot 21. Depression of a ticket key (29) also operates respective bars (43) (Fig. 7b) to step corresponding counters 42 (Fig. 3) so that a record is kept of the numbers of tickets sold. The counters 42 are formed as print wheels so that a card may be placed thereon and the lid 47 closed and rollers 48 operated to print the statistical information on the card. Supplementary information may be printed by wheels 44 adjustable by knobs 45 or by a separate plate 49 (shown dotted) inserted in guides. In a second embodiment the coin shoot 71 (Fig. 10) leads on to a plate 78 behind window 72. The plate has an extension 80 and counterweight 81, and may be pivoted about axis 79 by action of a bell crank 84, 85 actuated by solenoid 89, to deposit the coins down shoot 95 to the coin box. Manual operation via levers 165, 92, 90 is possible but is usually blocked by a sealed lock 94. Magnet 82 may be adjusted to automatically release plate 78 when it is overloaded with coins. The coin box (74) (Fig. 9) (not shown) has two co-operating locks (98), (100) and a sliding lid (97) arranged so that on insertion of the box into casing (70) a key (101) on the casing causes thelid to open. Lock 98 is operated to lock the box in place in the casing, the lock 100 being thereby set to be able to lock the lid shut when the box is subsequently removed. On removal, the lock 98 is operated and as the box is withdrawn key (101) closes the lid and locks it. A linkage (103), (105) closes off the coin shoot (71) when the coin box is removed. Print keys 73 (Fig. 11) actuate bars 106, an extension 107 on each bar co-operating with microswitch 110 to switch on motor 111. Pinion 114 driven by a friction clutch 120 moves rack 115 to the right releasing detent bar 117 to keep the bar 106 depressed. Rack 115 is stopped by the abutment of stop 116 with the selected bar 106 thereby positioning type on the base of 115 adjacent the print block 119. Continued rotation of clutch 120 causes pin 121 thereon to rock lever 122 to raise platten 125 against the print block and rack 115 thereby imprinting dates on ticket 126. Lever 122 also actuates switch 129 to reverse the motor and thereby drive the ticket advancing mechanism 130, 132, 133, 134 via gears 131 from an extension of the shaft of clutch 120 (not shown). The rack 115 is also returned moving detent bar 117 leftwards and disengaging the bar 106. A pin 137 on pinion 114 drives a guillotine 140 to sever the ticket, and rocks lever 141 to stop the motor. The fare stage may be imprinted on the ticket by print wheels 146 driven by knob 76 and monitored by counter 150. The ticket serial number is printed via wheels 144 advanced by pawl 145 on the ticket advancing mechanism. The statistics recorder (75) (Fig. 9) (not shown) is demountable and comprises a frame 152 (Fig. 11) holding counters 151. The bars 106 coact with spring returned levers 153 to advance the appropriate counter on depression of a key. Additional print matter may be included in the blocks 161, 162 mountable in frame 152, and as interlock may prevent operation of the unit if said blocks are not in place. The print wheels of the counters 151 project through slots in cover 160 whereby they may be imprinted on a card (163) (Fig. 9) (not shown) by actuation of lever 164.
