Abstract

1283687 Automatic frequency control; transistor amplifiers SIEMENS AG 18 Feb 1970 [19 Feb 1969] 7702/70 Headings H3A and H3T In a retroactive A.F.C. system wherein an oscillator has its frequency controlled by a variable capacity diode, and wherein coarse frequency control is effected by applying a bias voltage to the diode, variations in loop gain arising from varying the bias are obviated by also applying the bias to a gain control circuit in the loop. As described, Fig. 3, the gain control circuit comprises an amplifier T 1 ... T 4 with a negative feedback loop GK which includes an FET, T 5 acting as a variable impedance in a potential divider. The impedance, and thus the amplifier gain, is adjusted by the control signal which adjusts the bias on the oscillator tuning variable capacity diode Var. Initial lock-in of the circuit is provided by sweep generator T 6 , T 7 . The control arrangement may be employed in a frequency modulated transmitter, Fig. 2, in which the output from oscillator O s is mixed at M with a signal from a refrence oscillator R o to produce an I.F. signal. This I.F. signal and the required information signal Zf2 modulated on to a similar carrier are applied to a phase comparator to produce an error signal U R which is amplified by the gain controlled amplifier GV to produce the frequency control signal for the oscillator O s .
