1283450 2,3-Dihydroxy-1,4-dioxans FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 25 Nov 1970 [28 Nov 1969] 56093/70 Heading C2C Dioxans of the Formula (I) where R 1 and R 2 are hydrogen or alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, aryl or aryloxyaryl groups and R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen or methyl or ethyl groups, are made by heating a compound HO-CH(R 1 )CH(R 2 )OH with a compound R 3 CO.CO.R 4 in the presence of a solvent capable of forming an azeotropic mixture with water, the azeotrope having a boiling point not greater than 100‹ C.
