Abstract

1283290 Protected histidine and tryptophan ELI LILLY & CO 29 Dec 1970 [29 Dec 1969] 61621/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises the compounds N<SP>imid </SP>- adamantyloxycarbonyl - N<SP>α</SP> - benzyloxycarbonylhistidine and N<SP>in</SP> - adamantyloxycarbonyl - N<SP>α</SP> - benzyloxycarbonyltryptophan; their production from N<SP>α</SP>-benzyloxycarbonylhistidine or -tryptophan, e.g. by reacting an alkali metal salt thereof with adamantyl chloroformate; and their use as N-protected histidine or tryptophan derivatives for incorporating these aminoacids into a peptide sequence. The N<SP>α</SP>-benzyloxycarbonyl protecting group can be subsequently removed by hydrogenolysis, and/ or the adamantyloxycarbonyl group can be subsequently removed by treatment with CF 3 COOH or anhydrous HCl in an inert solvent.
