Abstract
1282264 Mixing apparatus IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 Jan 1971 [12 Jan 1970] 1393/70 Heading B1C A mixer for polyurethane plastics has a cylindrical rod stirrer 11 partly constructably enclosed by an elastic sleeve portion 5 of the chamber well. Polyol and polyisocyanate at 300-600 p.s.i. are metered into inlets 14, 15 and velocity balancing jets 16, 17 and enter tangentially an annular pre-mixing chamber 12 the volume of which may be adjusted by shims 13. The sleeve 5 may have a clearance of .002-.003", and its distension exerts a pressure on the mix which may be increased by pneumatic or hydraulic pressure fluid supplied at 9. Air to form a foam may be supplied at 18 and a solvent cleaner at 19. The inlet 14 may be as shown, upstream of the inlet 15 so that the apparatus may be purged by a stream of polyol. The sleeve 5 and stirrer 11 may be covered with polytetrafluoroethylene; the stirrer is rotatable at 1,000-5,000 rev/min.
