Abstract

1282233 Blast furnace tuyeres AUGUST THYSSEN-HUTTE AG 5 Nov 1970 [ 5 Nov 1969 and 25 July 1970] 52739/70 Heading F4B A blast furnace tuyere comprises a doublewalled nozzle part 4 within which coolant is circulated, and a flow guide 20a, 20b occupying substantially the whole of the space between the outer and inner walls at the outlet end so that a narrow gap is left to form a coolant passage. The flow guide may have a thin stem 20a and an enlarged part 20b. Ribs 23 may be formed on the nozzle walls, Fig. 2. Water enters the space 18 through an annular chamber 10 and holes spaced round the nozzle periphery, and leaves a chamber 19 through spaced holes and an inner annular chamber 11. The flow path round the enlarged flow guide part 20b is of constant cross-sectional. The nose part of the nozzle may be made detachable from the barrel part, a narrow passage of constant cross-section being formed for coolant flow in the nose part. The flow guide may be formed of such material that it may be inserted and then inflated by air or hydraulic fluid, or by settable plastic material. The inflatable flow guide 10 may be of rubber, glass reinforced plastic or soft-copper; and is located in its expanded state by ribs 62, Fig. 8.
